As we approach the end of the year we all start putting together our wish lists, one of my daughters is always making lists of the items she wants for Christmas, birthday and any other time she can get a present. Not long after our church launched we had issues with playing videos that had audio on our media PC, so in an effort to overcome the challenge we picked up a rather inexpensive VGA switcher. Last year when we upgraded our projector we had to dump the VGA switcher as we could switch the video source without messing up the picture really bad. As we approach the end of the year and I start looking at areas that need improvement the idea of HDMI switches came to mind but since we are planning on switching over to be an all Apple shop real soon I think I will look at some DVI over CAT5.
One of the challenges that we have had over the past (almost) two years at church is bad instrument/mic cables. We have been buying the inexpensive (read: cheap) cables due to the number of cables that we have needed and the overall budget that we have had. Lately these basic cables have been dying at a rate of about one or two a week. We have now made the decision to change our approach and go with the more expensive “Lifetime Guarantee” cables that our local music store of choice sells a store brand and of course the monster cable variety. Now if we have a cable backslide (yes that was a religious joke) we can take it to the local reseller and get a new one. “How cool is that!?”
well the construction detour is over (there is still a weird orange tint to the floor in that area) and we are back on trek. walked today and yesterday - yikes, that couple of day break really took a toll. need to finish getting the dinning room straightened so I can move the treadmill up to the mail floor - was suppose to do that this weekend and it was the only thing I didn’t get to. so now it’s out there and I better get it done.
tried a new config over the weekend for recording the service at Journey. Still need to break the worship songs into seperate tracks but the podcast is ready to upload - yet another thing to finish tonight. I don’t know if I am ever gonna get caught up on the month of Desperate Housewives that is still on the DVR. Finally got caught up on NCIS and Criminal Minds. New Jericho tomorrow night (I stay caught up on that one).
Sundays are the busiest day of the week for me. Being a part of a portable church, our one Sunday service means about 5 hours of work for me. This week was no exception. We are getting ready to move the Student Ministry service to Sunday mornings, preview is next weekend. So we have purchased enough equipment to have two services at the same time, some of the stuff in the main service was upgraded and the existing is passed over. One of those items that was upgraded was our sound console (technically it isn’t a mixer once you are over 20 channels). Journey Church is now the proud owner of an Allen & Heath GL2400-32. The music and even the speech was so clear and dynamic today it was unreal… as we work out the kinks over the next couple of weeks I am sure it will sound sooo much better.
So it is really late now and I am off to bed, will have to get the podcast taken care of tomorrow. Also need to get some of the music out from today, we played back the recording right after service and it sounded exactly like it did during the service, it was amazing! If you are looking for some pro audio or other music equipment I would highly recommend Guitar Center, especially the one in Cincinnati, they have really got some great people there.
