Just about the time that we get some extra funds and I am ready to get a life insurance quote something else breaks. Last night I got home and the house was warm, the A/C just wasn’t creating any cool air. So I shut the A/C off and kept the fan running to let the unit rest for a few, after about 10 minutes I turned the HVAC unit back on. A few minutes later I could smell freon and a hot/burning smell. I went down to check on the unit and discovered that the unit had frozen up solid and there was a lot of water on the floor and all over the unit – I also found that the hot surface igniter was glowing bright orange. Seeing as the heat wasn’t on that wasn’t a good thing. So I shut down the whole system and let it cool down a bit. I tried to power it back one twice last night to see if I could at least get the fan running… no luck.
This morning I went down to check on it again and turned the unit back on – the igniter came back on again and the lower part of the unit was sparking. So now in addition to needed a new inner coil, I also need a new circuit board. I called two HVAC service companies – only one called back and was up front enough to ask a few questions and determined that there was no advantage to come out today as they won’t have the parts until Monday. But on the bright side – at least we have (or as of Monday had) the mini emergency fund.

Kyra’s 2008 Piano Recital.
Kyra played Sonatia.
Listen very closely towards the end after she sits down, Joah ran up to her seat and said, “Kyra, did you win?”
After taking our dog to the vet for the puppy prevention procedure we found out from the vet that we have a “high needs” dog. Just what we were hoping for…
I guess we just aren’t pet people to the extent that we thought we were. We did enjoy the cats but our bodies didn’t. The dog is getting better but has oily skin and when bathed needs to be soaped up and left for 15 minutes before being rinsed. The dog is also a nervous poopper and we also found out that dogs enjoy pooping on concrete floors (like a basement). Also because of the oily skin the dog needs her ears cleaned out weekly – can you say ear wax. So we are trying to figure out if the dog will stick around but given the last of help from the 4 short(er) people in the house I donno if it will work out.
I am all for having pets and the responsibility that they bring but you have to know your own limits – while it would be nice to have a horse to keep the lawn short. I think having to have the extra large pooper scooper and dealing with horse supplements would also be a turn off.
Maybe we will just stick with the fish.
It seems like every area of culture has a couple of food items that are unique to that area that those from the outside don’t understand. Last week we had a coworker from the UK come across the pond to meet the rest of the team and get to enjoy the good ‘ol USA. While here we made sure to take him to try some Cincinnati Style chili. A few weeks before he was to come over I asked if he could throw a jar of Marmite in with his travel supplies. Marmite is similar to Vegemite in that they are both yeast extracts and to the first timer and especially the US pallete, they are quite overwhelming and just plain nasty. My coworker did suggest trying marmite with mustard on toast and it turned out to be a tolerable suggestion – however I don’t think I will be partaking in it on any sort of regular basis – if ever again.
I think we are just about due for our semi-annual major heating/cooling expense. The first couple years we were buying hot surface igniters, then we had to replace the ac compressor and now we are looking at having to replace the ac coil.
Ah the joys of home ownership. I did mow the lawn today so I should be free of harassment from the city for at least a couple of days again.
I know the answer is not found in diet pills. I just wish one didn’t have to work so darn hard to lose the weight that is so easy to put on. That being said, my wife and I are now on a quest to get in better (read: less round) shape. We simply need to make better choices about what we put in our mouth. The nice thing was that the grocery store that we shop at has their branded frozen veggies 10/$10 this week. So I stocked up on veggies – the nice thing is that I like vegetables and with some time (it may take 20-30 years) our kids will like them too.
I think we are pretty much reserved that we need to visit some furniture stores in the near future. Our love seat is in serious need of being replaced, quickly. The springs on our love seat have degraded to the point where they give no support anymore. So today I went out to the garage and found a piece of 3/4 inch plywood that I cut to length and have put on the love seat under the cushions, it adds some additional support in that you don’t sink down to the floor. However it seems to create this void now where you feel like you need some lumbar support. Oh what to do, what to do. I think a futon is in our near future, if the IRS even finishes processing our amended return.
for some reason this morning I was thinking about end of life. I think it was because I watched Bruce Almighty a couple days ago as my thoughts were more of a entrance exam like setting (clouds, pearly gates, etc.). And I was contemplating what my thoughts would be if in that position. (again, I think this was due to getting up so early and catching some end of the world nut talking to George Norry)
At this point in my life, while I am assured of eternity in heaven through Christ’s sacrifice, I am not longing for that day. I still have a purpose and a job to do here on earth. Not to mention that I don’t have enough life insurance and I would not want to leave a worse situation behind for my family.
Which brings me around to, maybe some of the ‘stimulus’ money should go towards some term insurance for my self, my wife and our kids. Not sure how much it would be for the two of us, but I can’t imagine that child insurance would be expensive (as long as you stay away from whole life).
For over a year now I haven’t been using the most popular drug in America… C8H10N4O2
However after seeing a news story this morning I am thinking I will swing by and buy something.
A Christian group out of San Diego has found grounds for outrage over the new logo for Starbucks Coffee. The “naked woman” on the logo is “extremely poor taste, and the company might as well call themselves, Slutbucks,” the group’s founder says.

Are you kidding me!? No wonder the world looks at Christians as a bunch of looneys. We keep giving supporting evidence.
I’m sorry but I don’t think Jesus is concerned about a company logo, and if there is someone out there that is getting off via the new/old starbucks logo they have much bigger problems.
Now if you want to make a legitimate reason for skipping the Starbucks in the morning, lets talk about consumerism and how we will spend $4 for a cup of coffee but bitch that we have to pay $4 for a gallon of gas. Just to put that in perspective… A typical latte costs $3.59 for 16 oz…that’s .22 cents per ounce or $28.72 a gallon!
A new era has arrived in our home. We have officially moved into the realm of preteens and all the joy that comes with it. From grumpiness, moodiness, and sleepiness to all of the other ‘wonderful’ things that those years brought. Human Development books have found their way in to our home and new purchases are being made – deodorants, ‘fancy’ scented soaps, and hygiene products. I am sure in a short few months we will be seeing a number of acne solutions on the bathroom counter.
What happened to my little girls and how did I get this old?
