The IT Crowd ranks right up there with “Nick Burns, Your Company’s Computer Guy” from SNL. Actually it is better because it is British. Anyway I am in the process of “getting” the second season. If you have not seen this show please go check out YouTube! There have been rumors that NBC may bring this show to the US, like they did with The Office. Not sure how I feel about that yet.
As a participant in a portable church each week has the potential to bring new challenges. Since we meet in a local high school a couple of times during the year we have to accommodate some other events that move us out of our preferred environments. These last 3 weeks of April have been and continue to be a challenge. With the spring drama performances last weekend and this weekend we expected to be in the gym for two weeks but found out that the week prior we would also be there as the auditorium was no longer available until the performances were over. That made the first weekend in the gym a big challenge as we had planned to get in the space that weekend to plan for the next but not having the time to plan we had to figure it out on the fly. Over all we pulled it off well – the biggest improvement this weekend was getting some alternative sticks for our drummer. That made a huge difference. This weekend the other half of the gym is being used by another event and we are trying to find a different environment that will work for us but not disrupt the other events. To be honest I am looking forward to seeing how we will overcome this challenge.
Still, I can’t help but dream about a day when we will be able to acquire some commercial real estate that we can share with the community.
A couple years ago I got my wife a nice pair of diamond earrings.
Today I found out that jewelelegance.com is having a treasure hunt promotion!.
Hopefully I can win something.
I have mentioned the situation with our house a few times on my blog, but last week I was talking to a coworker in the UK and if you thought it would be expensive to live in New York just try searching for “movers New York” but as expensive as I thought it was on the East and Left (opps, West) Coasts – real estate in the UK is totally out of control.
My coworker was telling me about his place, a little bigger than a flat but not a big place by an stretch of the imagination and it was right around 1 million pounds! (That is $2million US!!!) I can’t even begin to imagine the cost of living over there.
I am looking forward to next month though as he will be coming over the pond to visit us here in the US. I asked him to bring some marmite which he was surprised that I even knew about it.
With all the (hyped) news about the credit crunch. I am sure some maybe searching for budgeting and planning solutions. Personally I think it is better to follow the K.I.S.S. method (keep it simple, stupid) and have found a great deal of common sense and success in the methods that Dave Ramsey presents. More over in doing some research on DaveRamsey.com I found information about Momentum. Which is a new church program from The Lampo Group that is based upon the question, “Imagine what The People of God could do for The Kingdom of God if they were Debt Free.” After just a few minutes of reading more about Momentum I knew instantly that it would be such a logical step for Journey Church. This needs to be apart of our DNA, what could more empower a community of people to LIVE BIG!
I had planned to get some pictures taken this weekend of some of my junk in the garage and basement so I could post it on CraigsList. But since I ended up having to work over 9 hours on Saturday we barely even got the house cleaned up a bit. So tonight I searched for treadmills to see what people are looking for. I am still hoping to find someone to trade me for an elliptical, I also have a weight bench and some 1″ plates.
Although with the weather getting nicer I probably just need to get out and walk on the nice days. It’s not like some little ones have been asking every day, ha!, every hour if they can go on a bike ride. Hopefully this week we can get their bikes ready to go.
My kids have a magnifying glass that I think was sent home by my in-laws. I am not really sure why my in-laws sent a magnifying glass home with my kids. Their eye sight is fine and I am not aware of any fine print books in the house. I can only assume that this is so they can torture insects in the backyard on a sunny day. I am wondering if I need to show them what can be done with a piece of paper on a nice sunny day… probably not, I don’t want my kids to discover any pyromaniac tendencies.
Apparently there was an earthquake this morning that was felt in the Greater Cincinnati area. The crazy thing is that it was 180 miles away in Illinois. Unfortunately I was already in the car on my way to a leadership meeting for church and I didn’t notice. That is until I turned on the radio to make sure there weren’t any traffic issues (I75 south was taken down to 1 lane from where I get on through the next two exits) and both stations I checked were talking about the earthquake and calls telling about it.
An earthquake registering a 5.4-magnitude 180 miles away in southeast Illinois shook the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region at 5:37 a.m. No damages or injuries have been reported.
Tremors rocked residents from Wilmington to West Chester Township to Delhi Township in Hamilton County to Bellevue in Northern Kentucky for about 10 seconds, county dispatchers reported.
The quake was centered six miles from West Salem, Ill., and 66 miles from Evansville, Ind. It was felt in such distant cities as Chicago, Milwaukee, and Des Moines, Iowa, 450 miles northwest of the epicenter, but there were no early reports of injuries or significant damage.
The quake occurred in the Illinois basin-Ozark dome region that covers parts of Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas and stretches from Indianapolis and St. Louis to Memphis, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Earthquake tremors reported

I think I have mentioned before how we have been watching Intervention on A&E. It is just amazing to me to see these people who’s lives have been just ruined by their addictions. What is more upsetting is to see the updates that they close the show with and how some of the featured people go back to an addiction even after drug treatment. But when I think about it, I really don’t have any room or space to be critical. (this will be a jump) Kinda like how we read about Israel and how they were on again off again with God and wonder why they just weren’t more consistent – because we would have been. Of course we are only fooling our selves with that kinda of attitude. How many of us, no matter what it is, fail to do what we know we should do simply because continuing to do what we are doing is easier.

@stephenncollins Christian responsibility does not equal social justice. Social justice is a political term that leads to communism. 2010/03/08
