Maybe a weekend in Pigeon Forge cabins would do the trick.
When does that ‘stimulus’ check come?

relax don’t do it

A number of months back I had a preliminary phone interview with a company in the area. I never heard back from anyone after that initial phone conversation – I thought it went well, guess not. It did sound like a great environment to work in, they even had weekly massage therapy to help reduce stress.
Given the report from my wife yesterday, I may need to seek out some stress relief from work as I was talking in my sleep about the project that I am working on – major deadline coming up and all the responsibility is falling on me for this major deadline. Maybe I need to go pick up some calgon.

time is coming

You know how all the entertainment legends of the past are trying to sell stuff to our parents – medical alerts, security systems, and adjustable chairs. I know our time is coming when we will see Bon Jovi trying to see me a zero gravity recliner. Or one of the original Mtv VJ’s selling a super colleciton of 80s video hits on what ever replaces DVD. I guess it just goes to show that the icons of our generation will always be trying to sell us something. I just hope they aren’t trying to sell us the Rock & Roll life long after they should be dead (thank you for that one Rolling Stones).

business time

Every once in a while I get to thinking about how it would be nice to work for myself. The biggest hurdle with that is just fear of the unknown and wanting to make sure you aren’t jumping over a cliff. In addition to having a solid business plan you also have to market yourself effectively.
One of the ways to do that is with business cards. There are a number of places to get inexpensive business cards and I found on that even offers logo design. They have a number of logos to choose from that are regularly updated so you can choose a logo and not have to worry that in a month or so everyone you meet will be using the same logo icon. You can then take that same logo design that you create yourself with their easy to use online editor and turn it into a business card in just a matter of minutes. The great part is that if you decide to change something in the process you can jump back to the step to change it. I was able to select a logo icon, color it and create a business card in under five minutes. The longest part of the process was finding exactly the logo icon that I wanted to use – they have a ton of them so making a decision was a little tough but they have a search feature and have them broken down into categories that make finding that perfect logo really easy.

The business cards look really sharp on the LogoYes website and I am sure that they are even more impressive once you receive them. Your business card isn’t just a piece of paper with your contact info, it is a miniature billboard of your dream!

what ever in the world did people do before someone invented diaper wipes?
I think that might be one of the reasons that we have four children, it has given us a cover for having diaper wipes in the house for the last 12 years. Diaper wipes are like the perfect cleaning item, not only do they clean stuff, quite well I might add, they smell better than your regular kitchen wipe. Maybe the youngest not being fully potty trained isn’t such a bad thing after all… wait I take that back. I just like having the wipes in the house though.

snorenomore.net
It may not be the cure for snoring but it has helped me with overnight congestion.

About a month or so ago I received a SnoreNoMore ring to try out and share my experience. In reading the package insert I got a good understanding of how the weird looking ring works.

The sterling silver ring is worn on the left pinkie finger, positioned between the knuckle and first joint. The inside of the ring holds two slightly raised bumps that apply pressure to the acupoints along the finger. Acupressure is an ancient healing art developed in Asia over 5,000 years ago that uses pressure on key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body’s natural self-curative abilities.

The ring itself looks like someone messed up and put the decoration part on the wrong side of the ring. But I figured that since I was sleeping it didn’t matter if it was fashionable or not. Since I got the ring I have worn it just about ever night. Since I am not awake when I am sleeping I had to ask my wife if wearing the ring affected my snoring, if I even snored at all – she laughed at that part. Of course I needed to start going to bed at the same time as my wife so she could ‘monitor’ if there was a difference.
My wife has said that she has not noticed a significant difference as I think there are other health issues that contribute to my snoring. But the biggest improvement that I have noticed has been in the fact that I can breathe when I get up in the morning. I am not waking up with the congestion that I wake with up when I don’t wear that funny looking ring on my left pinky finger. I guess the whole acupressure thing isn’t just made up after all.

I need to lose weight in a big way. The problem is discipline and time management. I stay up too late cause I am constantly working on something and then can’t get up in the morning early enough to workout. Of course if I could figure out a way to take less than 2 hours to get out of the house in the morning I would probably be better off.
I good friend loaned me his bowflex which I still need to find instructions for. I need to clear out some of the gear that I have in the basement – weight bench, free weights (non olympic) and a narrow treadmill. I am kinda hoping that I can put them on Craigslist and trade for an elliptical.
But then again I would be happy just to find some magic weight loss pills.

For the last year and a half I have had the displeasure of having my health insurance through SRC, an aetna company. I have told SRC and my (former) employer that had I known that I was going to be contracting for 18 months I would have gotten individual health insurance. Since I am no longer working for the company that uses SRC, I got the Cobra packet in the mail. Typically Cobra insurance is really high because you are paying the full rate (both the employee and the employer contrubtions) not surprising the Cobra amount for SRC was not even $100 more a month than what I was already paying.
Unfortanatley I am not done dealing with them yet as I am still trying to get some claims processed. But at least my new heath care coverage is “way way way” better (to quote my three year old).

How long…to sing this song

There are times in our life where we can’t help but ask why.
Lately those moments haven’t really been about my own life but those who lives have touched mine. We have some friends that have just had a hellish year and unfortunately the calendar has not kept it contained. I am at the point where I cry out for them, “How long, O LORD, how long?
Two years ago this month a friend of our passed away quickly, unexpectedly and just too young. Tonight I happened to check blog feeds and saw that Marsh posted “why did they have to die?
I know that the question we should focus on is what and not why. But frankly I don’t have an answer for either question. I don’t know if I ever will – I know that I am not entitled to an answer, but it would be really nice to have one this time.

I still remember one of the first times Chad Canipe and I talked, it wasn’t long after our family started going to New Life church and I was playing drums. During community time (aka breakfast) Chad said that I palyer/sounded like Larry Mullen – at the time I had no idea he was the drummer for U2, I hadn’t really listened to much U2 before I met Chad, I had the Joshua Tree album but really only listened to the first three songs (I don’t think I am alone on that). But for him to compare me to the drummer of his favorite band is quite an honor. I guess that would be like me comparing someone to Dave Mustaine, Steven Adler or Neal Peart.
