I have only been to Arizona once – actually it was two weeks after we moved in to our house. I got to fly out there for work – first time I ever flew on a plane, I really enjoyed it. The nice thing was the kids got to see me to the gate – this was just before 9-11. Unfortunately while out there I didn’t get to do much site seeing as I worked the whole weekend trying to get everything done. It would have been nice to get to look around a bit. About a year later I was offered a ‘promotion’ that would have involved moving to Arizona and while Arizona luxury real estate wasn’t anything we could consider, they weren’t even offering an increase in pay, we quickly said no. Good thing in the long run as it wasn’t even a year later and I was no longer working for that company.

Ever get a gift from some one and wonder if there isn’t a hidden message behind it?
Back when I graduated from high school my graduation gift from my mom and step-dad was a set of Samsonite luggage. I am not saying that I think they wanted me to leave – heck at the time I wanted to leave but the thought has always been in the back of my mind that maybe subconsciously they were telling me to get out. I did move out of my mom’s house about a month after graduation, I moved to my dad’s house where I lived for a year while attending my first year of college. And then got to use the luggage again when I moved to Ohio that next summer. Since then that set of luggage has spent most of the time in the closet occasionally coming out for infrequent trips. I guess one could look at it that they were providing me with luggage that I could use when I came back to visit.

With three females in the house we have always had makeup mirrors. A while back I confiscated one of them to use as a shaving mirror. I had bought a shaving mirror from a local discount retailer but I couldn’t see anything in the ‘mirror’. Until about a few weeks ago, when I pealed off the protective film that was on the mirror. oops!

I really need to get back on the horse of regular exercise. A couple of years ago we had a nice home setup of free weights unfortunately a big discouragement for me was lack of someone to work out with or at least someone who could be a spotter. We got a recumbent bike a number of years ago when the old stationary bike we had gave up the ghost. However I would really love to have an elliptical and since I am on the subject I would really like a Bowflex or some type of Weider home gym. I guess in the meantime I just need to get my back end on the recumbent bike.

Glenn Beck had one of America’s Heroes on his show today. Marcus Luttrell is one of the brave men who makes it possible for me to be free, for me to be able to publicly worship Creator God and simply the reason why this country is still the greatest country on the planet. On today’s Glenn Beck Program, as the interview was wrapping up Glenn asked Marcus what he has faith in, in the context of the miss management and undermining of the war on terror by all the people in Washington DC. Marcus’s answer was simply awe inspiring…

Well, I walked outside and see the red, white and blue flying on that pole out there and I mean, you — the guys who went before me to make sure that thing’s still up there, I mean, I’m kind of a history buff and I talk to these guys and it’s just like why would I — that’s not as matter of fact. We were at a ceremony and this guy walked up to me. He was trying to tell me, you guys, we’re real proud of you, what you’re doing, I know it’s a hard war and I was saying, you passed it to me. You think for one second I’m going to turn my back on you and let you down after everything you went through? I mean, this engagement, those guys where 30,000 people die in a day. There was 4,000 people died in Iraq total and I was just like, hey, man, that’s my job; that’s what I’m here for. We had 50 New York firemen down for the ceremony, too, and we were talking about it. Just like, hey, when 9/11 happened, it’s like, hey, you’re passing the flag to us; we’ll take it from here. You think I’m going to look at it and say, I can’t do this anymore; it’s too hard? If we give up, then bad stuff’s going to start happening and that’s not going to happen while I’m around or while my buddies are around. It actually means something for us to take time out of your day to get your head out of your butt.

As Glenn did at the end of the interview I would like to encourage you to read Marcus’s book about what happened to him and the rest of Seal Team 10 – Lone Survivor

I have never been able to understand why when someone goes to alcohol rehabs they don’t quite smoking as well. If someone is going into rehab to quit drinking or quit using drugs why would they continue to use tobacco, which is just another addiction? Of course I don’t understand smoking at all but I do understand that it can be a strong physical and psychological addiction.

I make it a policy to not talk about work issues on my blog. I understand why companies want you to use their hardware with their software image on it if only to simplify their internal support. But it would be really nice to be able to use my Mac at work. If I had a MBP I could dual boot into the required windows environment for the windows only applications that I have to use. But for now this Dell machine that I have could sure use some additional Dell Memory.
