that’s me in the spot light

The big town news paper was looking for people who are trying Alli.

Alli (pronounced AL-eye) maker GlaxoSmithKline cautions that if you eat more than the recommended amount of fat while taking the supplement – an average of 15 grams per meal – you might experience “treatment effects.”
Those can include gas with oily spotting, loose stools, more frequent stools that may be hard to control and an urgent need to go to the bathroom. Alli’s Web site (www.myalli.com) even recommends wearing dark pants and bringing a change of clothes to work at first.
But does fear of those side effects help the drug work for dieters?
Mike Utech, a 31-year-old Hamilton resident, says that’s exactly what’s helped him to lose six pounds.
“My whole life, I’ve been a stress eater,” says Utech, who wants to lose a total of 80 pounds. “If something’s going on, my instinct is to grab for food, and now I think, ‘OK, I don’t want to eat that because it’s going to come back to haunt me.’ This has been a really good motivator to keep me on the straight and narrow.”
Utech says his side effects have been minimal and never embarrassing. But that hasn’t been the case for everyone.

Jae tagged me the other day and now I finally got around to it…

The rules are simple: Each player lists 8 facts/habits about themselves. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed. At the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

1. Fact: I am a geek.
2. Habit: I kiss all the kids before I leave the house – and their mom too.
3. Fact: If my wife and I were any different we would be more alike.
4. Habit: I am a talk show junkie. If I am not listening to a talk show then I am listening to a podcast of a talk show or a podcast with a talk show format.
5. Fact: I am not good at video games – they are just too complicated now. What ever happened to just a joystick and maybe a button or two?
6. Habit: I have a tendency to not hear my alarm or if I do hear it it is incorporated in a dream somehow.
7. Fact: I love my Mac. I would like a Core2Duo machine and while I am at it a new iPod.
8. Habit: I check my email way too much.

I can only think of one person to tag, so here you go Lonnie.

Scientists have discovered what Christians already knew…

An analysis of thousands of skulls shows modern humans originated from a single point in Africa and finally lays to rest the idea of multiple origins, British scientists said on Wednesday.

Turn up the radio

Wanted to share with my couple of blog readers an email I sent out today concerning an opportunity that our church has. Some content has been removed since I am posting this on the web…

You are encouraged to participate if you are able to do so.

Subject: Opportunity for Journey Church
From: “Mike Utech” <media[at]cincyjourney[dot]org>

————————————————————————–
Journey Church is currently faced with a great opportunity to reach beyond the West Chester area to present the gospel to the Greater Cincinnati Region.

You may or may not be aware that in November 2006 a new talk radio station launched in the Cincinnati market. SuperTalk FM 96.5 is the first and currently only FM talk station in our area. If you are a listener of radio you are well aware of the clearer signal you get from an FM station than an AM station. Even more so, an FM station has a clear signal a lot further than an AM station. SuperTalk FM 96.5 primary broadcast radius extends from their broadcast tower in Mason — North almost to New Carlisle, West past Brookville Indiana, East to Sabina and Hillsboro, and South past Independence and Alexandria in Northern Kentucky. Currently 30% of SuperTalk’s weekend schedule is Sporting News Radio feed that is piped in sometimes on tape delay. The sales force and Program Director at SuperTalk would like to see their Sunday morning slots filled with Christ honoring presentations of the Gospel Message.

I original spoke with a sales representative a few months ago about bringing our weekly podcast to the airwaves of Cincinnati and while the idea was very well received we simply didn’t have the resources to make it happen. Recently I meet with the sales rep again to discuss another opportunity and we also spoke about the weekly programing. Since our first meeting the first ratings book has come out and SuperTalk 96.5FM is starting to get a idea of who their audience is, the ratings showed that 96.5FM is attracting a much younger audience compared to the other talk stations in the area. The largest demographic has a median age of 40 with the second largest group being 30 year old professionals, the overall target demographic for Supertalk FM will be adults (25-54).

Again we talked about the weekly programming option and due to the fact that Journey Church was the first church to approach the station about programming we are being given a special opportunity. If we can get our programming on the air before the end of July, yes this month, (we will get a substantial discount). This would allow us to have a 30 minute program on every Sunday morning in our preferred time slot of 8:30 to 9am. [edited]

Which leads me to the reason for my email. I am looking for some people within our faith community and relational network who would be able to give above their regular support (tithe) to the church and contribute to this specific project. Let me stress that this needs to be above your regular giving as it would not be right to take away from our regular support for this opportunity. Time is short as the end of the month is quickly approaching and in order to get the [edited] discount we need to have our show on the air on July 29.

Specifically we need to collect [edit] this coming weekend in order for us to make a 13 week commitment. Can you help? Or if you know someone who you think would love to help with this please pass this message along to them.

If you are able to contribute please make your contribution out to Journey Church (so it can be added to your giving record) and place in the offering on Sunday, July 22 – please designate your gift by writing “Radio” on the memo of the check or on the giving envelope. If you are unable to be at our service on Sunday (at Adrenaline Sports and Fitness again) please mail your check to Journey Church, PO Box 293, West Chester, OH 45071.

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me, my contact information is below.
Thank you.

I tried the keep the spirit of the message intact but feel that I need to remove some details out of respect to the radio station. If you would like to contribute and would like specific details please contact me and I will give you the rest of the info. Thanks.

great sushi + awesome company = happy day
jae and I hooked up for some great sushi for lunch today. we both agree that spicy crab stick is our favorite. spicy white tail comes in a close second and shrimp tempura rounds out my top three.
personally, california roll is getting old and eel isn’t bad (i think the bbq sauce on it is what makes it ok) and I must say that shaved ginger is not as good as shaved pickled ginger.
but really it’s fresh sushi (not that garbage that they have at the grocery store – even Jungle Jim’s) and this place is the best I have had – and the price is the most reasonable in the area.

I am sure you have seen the headline about Al Gore’s son.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The 24-year-old son of former Vice President Al Gore was arrested for drug possession on Wednesday after he was stopped for speeding in his hybrid Toyota Prius, a sheriff’s official said.
Al Gore III — whose father is a leading advocate of policies to fight global warming — was driving his environmentally friendly car at about 100 miles per hour on a freeway south of Los Angeles when he was pulled over by an Orange County sheriff’s deputy at about 2:15 a.m.

Personally I have to question the validity of this story. Are you telling me that a Prius can go 100 miles per hour? Seriously!?

Yesterday President Bush commuted the prison term of ‘Scooter’ Libby.

“This commutation sends the clear signal that in this administration, cronyism and ideology trump competence and justice.” – Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y.

I think someone needs to remind Ms. Hillary about the pardons that were granted on January 20, 2001.

  • Verla Jean Allen – False statements to agency of United States
  • Richard Anthony Nazzaro – Perjury and conspiracy to commit mail fraud
  • Charlene Ann Nosenko – Conspiracy to defraud the United States, and influencing or injuring an officer or juror generally
  • Robert William Palmer – Conspiracy to make false statements
  • Charles D. Ravenel – Conspiring to defraud the United States
  • Gerald Glen Rust – False declarations before grand jury
  • Jerri Ann Rust – False declarations before grand jury
  • Jack L. Williams – Making false statements to federal agents (two counts)
  • Joseph A. Yasak – Knowingly making under oath a false declaration regarding a material fact before a Grand Jury
  • Political bickering aside, no really. Back in the 90s when the right was screaming about Clinton and his lies to the grand jury they wanted blood. Now some 10 years later the right is saying the lie isn’t the issue.
I agree that Libby should not have had to go through the political witch hunt that has ensued over the so called outing of Plame (how a person can be outed who was never under cover and who spoke publicly about her job).
The problem here is that in the course of the investigation of a crime that was never committed Libby lied. Remember Martha Stewart? She went to prison because she lied. You can argue over weather the prosecution was fair or warranted but the fact is that he lied and there are laws against lying.
(For the record – Janet, you were right and I was wrong last night.)

If President Bush wants to use his powers under Article II, Section 2, of the Constitution he needs to be using them for U.S. Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean.

Zoe and I had a great evening Friday night. We were at the restaurant for about an hour and a half. Zoe really enjoyed the food and surprised me in that she kept her salad for the entire meal and kept eating on it – once the dressing ran out, a creamy avocado that is the house specialty, and dessert came she finally relented and let the salad be taken off the table. She enjoyed the crepe as well as the mountainous wedge of chocolate mousse. Yes, there were left overs – which Zoe was more than happy to share once we got home and she was hungry again.
We swung by the mall on the way home, picked up some milk since we were out… again. We arrived at the front of Teddy Bear Stuffers just as the lady working there had finished pulling down the gate. We stood there for a minute and I told Zoe that we could come back tomorrow when the lady working saw us and asked if we would like to come it (I bet it had something to do with the fact that we were both dressed up – she made me wear a tie).
Zoe is now the proud ‘mother’ of a stuffed cat – which is the best kind of cat to own. I promised that we would go back to get her cat an outfit this weekend as I didn’t have enough to get the over priced clothes at the time. Although I got to hear on the way home how it was just wrong that her cat has to be naked for a week. I pointed out that all cats are naked and while I don’t think I swayed her position I was able to change the subject.
We had some good conversation over the course of the evening. At one point Zoe asked if I was going to spy on her when she got older and went on a date – I told her that it is my hope that I won’t have to spy on her. While we were looking at the dessert menu Zoe noticed something on the floor under the table. She found a gold bracelet, upon closer look it appeared to have diamonds and rubys in it and given their size appeared to be real. Zoe wanted to keep it but we talked about honesty and the importance of returning things when you find them. After I told her that the person who lost it was probably upset that it was gone she was eager to give it to our server and point out that she found it. We really had a great time.
