Well the walking has hit a snag. Our 1.5 mile walk route has been block due to some construction work. Guess it is time to fire up the tread mill at home. Also need to get a new pair of walking shoes or at least new insoles (is that the right word?)
We had a great service yesterday at Journey. If you weren’t there make sure you check out the podcast from this week. (and if you email me I’ll give you the super secret location of some of our house worship band tracks). Tom did a good job talking about sex and the fact that the church needs to talk about it more, it was God’s creation after all – that the evil one has taken and destroyed to a lie in our current culture. I really think Tom will need to do a whole series on the topic of sex because one message just didn’t give enough time for the areas that he covered; parents, singles, married.

i have continued my walking during the week, Friday i walked with someone new and we completed the 1.5 miles in 27 minutes (it was the fastest he had walked it) and today i rejoined my regular walking mate and we hit 24 minutes. that means we only have 1:30 to shave off to keep from getting shot – my shins were burning not even half way into the walk today.
In other news, the AP is reporting tonight that the former home of Johnny and June Carter Cash burned down today.
Johnny Cash’s longtime lakeside home, a showcase where he wrote much of his famous music and entertained U.S. presidents, music royalty and visiting fans, was destroyed by fire on Tuesday.
Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash, lived in the 13,880-square-foot home from the late 1960s until their deaths in 2003.
…
Parts of the landmark video for Cash’s song “Hurt” was shot inside the house.

Keith Matthew “Matt” Maupin (13 July 1983–) is a United States Army PFC captured by Iraqi insurgents on April 9, 2004 while serving in the Iraq War after his convoy came under attack by rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire near Baghdad, Iraq. On June 28, 2004, Al Jazeera reported that he was executed by his captors who shot him in the head. On June 30, 2004, an Army spokesman said the video showing Maupin’s alleged death was “totally inconclusive.”

so i was working on a project tonight for work, really it is for work. we have like six of these in the office.
well instead of using expanding foam, i thought that hot glue would make a better seal (it does btw) and therefore give MORE POWER!!! Arrh! Arrh! Arrh!
well i ended up dropping a glob of hot glue (from a high heat hot glue gun) on my left index finger. Not thinking i grabbed a paper towl and wiped off the hot glue, along with part of my finger – can we say instant blister. it is a decent thickness, down to the pinker skin. We i have it wrapped and have some pain releaver in my system so it is time for bed. night.

No walking partner today so I was back up to 27 minutes. Almost didn’t walk today as I really didn’t feel like it. But I feel great better now that I did.
Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Aaah-ah,
Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Ah-ah
Does anyone catch my goofy allusions in the post titles? Does anyone care?

From Yahoo News: “Metallica may be a cool name for a heavy metal band, but a Swedish couple is struggling to convince officials it is also suitable for a baby girl.
‘It suits her,’ Karolina Tomaro, 27, said Tuesday of the name. ‘She’s decisive and she knows what she wants.’”
The article goes on to say that “there already is a woman in Sweden with Metallica as a middle name”. The hold up is “the Swedish National Tax Board refused to register the name, saying it was associated with both the rock group and the word ‘metal.’”
OK, so what’s the problem. If a woman was allowed to have ‘Metallica’ as a middle name why isn’t it ok for a first name? We have people in the USA named Freedom and Glory. Heck, I have even heard first hand stories of women who have named the daughters after their anatomy (yes there!).
I saw that as long as the girl isn’t referred to as anything after the Black Album then she is ok, given that it is Sweden I think they have a national ban on the crap Metallica has put out beginning with and since “Load” – how appropriate.

John 4:7-9, 27
7-9 A woman, a Samaritan, came to draw water. Jesus said, “Would you give me a drink of water?” (His disciples had gone to the village to buy food for lunch.) The Samaritan woman, taken aback, asked, “How come you, a Jew, are asking me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?” (Jews in those days wouldn’t be caught dead talking to Samaritans.)
27Just then his disciples came back. They were shocked. They couldn’t believe he was talking with that kind of a woman. No one said what they were all thinking, but their faces showed it.
I have always been drawn to the fourth chapter of John, and again in my life I am drawn there as study and podcasts have opened it up once again and revealed new revelation to me.
One of the podcasts that I have recently started listening to is Revolution Church. Revolution Church has gotten some recent notoriety with the One Punk Under God documentary on the Sundance channel. (It just so happens that the previous mentioned DirectTV provides us with the Sundance channel and I am trying to DVR all the episodes of OPUG.)
But my new pondering has not been sparked by Jay Bakker, he fanned the embers of some conversations with Janet, in addition to comments/preaching from some of my favs, Mosaic, Mars Hill Bible Fellowship, and Mars Hill Church.
So the above verses are from the account of Jesus’ interaction with the “woman at the well”. Jesus actions were so counter cultural – a religious leader (rabbi) speaking to a woman (and a woman with a bad reputation even), a Jew taking the short cut through Samaria, and then interacting with a Samaritan. You get the point. This interaction really makes me wonder – What should be the Christ Like (Christian) response to the homosexual community?
People are people, sin is sin. Now that we have that aside what do we do? I do not believe that people are born “that way” weather “that way” is homosexual or addict or fat or fill in the blank. A person can be born with a leaning a certain way or the potential, but I think our environment plays a much bigger role and I think our broken nature (the effect of original sin) is more of an influencer than what people think it is.
The homosexual community and individual has become the Samaria and woman at the well of our day. Go back and look at verse 27. The disciples were shocked about what the found Jesus doing. They didn’t share their thoughts but it so affected them that their body language gave them away.
Jay Bakker has gone on the record to say that homosexuality is not a sin and he supports gay marriage. I’m not there, don’t know if I will ever be. But I do see a merit for civil unions, I can’t go so far as to call it “marriage†but I am a rare breed that still considers marriage a sacred union between a man and a woman. But I think that a discussion needs to be had about homosexuality and Christ and the Bible, because I don’t think being gay is the unforgivable sin or sends you on a fast track to hell as has been portrayed by conservative Christian community. Jesus just loved people where they were and as they were. He told the woman at the well to go sin no more – what did that mean in her circumstances, what does that mean in this context? You comments are welcomed, but will be moderated, just to make sure someone doesn’t get inappropriate. Let’s be adults and discuss this. Feel free to email me as well – blog at mike utech dot com
