I heard about this story on Glenn Beck’s show this morning. The County of Los Angeles has requested that equipment vendors avoid using the industry term “Master/Slave” in product descriptions and labeling.

You have got to be kidding me!!! I can’t even write commentary about this as I am just at a lose of words….

Black Friday

Author: utech  //  Category: Consistently Chili

Well it’s the day after Thanksgiving, you know after thinking about it I think Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. No pressure to give presents, no hurt feelings, no disappointments. Just a good meal, time spent with family and friends, and reflection upon the blessings one has received.

All in all I am blessed and I am truly thankful for it. This year has been a lot better than the year prior. Mostly because I was employed! and last year was really a tough one personally. I think I have done a lot of growing up in the past year too. While I would love to be surprised and get something really cool for my birthday or Christmas this year I don’t need it. Actually if someone really wants to surprise me with a gift I would really like to have a credit card paid off :)

Well I am at work today. There is one other person here in the Data Comm. Group. We spent about 45 minutes talking about yesterday and now I think we are both just surfing. I do have a couple of things I want to get done today so once I finish this I will get to them.

I am staying away from the shopping today. Just don’t want to get in the traffic. And since I am a ‘deal’ shopper I just need to stay away today cause there are some great deals out there today. I am always amazed at the price of stuff, especially technology. I saw an ad for a DVD player on sale for $30 this morning. Unreal! Last year we bought the In-Laws a DVD player for $100 and we thought it was a great bargain. Heck my first DVD player was $450. Wow do I feel dumb.

Did a little surfing through the blogosphere this morning…

I found a list of Men’s Rules over at Journey Inside My Mind. Personally I liked number 1, number 1, and number 1.

Found a blog this morning that has blog-rolled almost all the blogs I visit on a daily basis. However my blog isn’t listed. *sniff* (Not going to link to it as I am not fishing for a link but I will keep an eye on it)

Found a great article titled What Should I Do If the Internet Goes Down off of Living Room. Make sure you print it out cause if it happens you won’t be able to get to it.

I am also thinking about sending out a search party to check out some of these blog owners who never update their sites…

OK time to get some work done…

President says Thanks

Author: utech  //  Category: Consistently Chili

By now you have probably seen the news that the Prez flew to Iraq to wish the troops a Happy Thanksgiving and to personally thank them. Here is a detail of what all happened as filed by a member of the Press Pool as reported at DRUDGE REPORT 2003®.

How stinking cool is that!!!

I am thankful that I am an American and that President Bush is our Commander in Chief!

Thankful

Thanksgiving Jokes

Author: utech  //  Category: Consistently Chili

I got a few corney jokes in email, thought I would pass on the ones I liked. Please don’t hold this against me…

If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring?

Pilgrims!

Why did the turkey cross the road?

It was the chicken’s day off.

Why can’t you take a turkey to church?

Because they use such FOWL language

What are the feathers on a turkey’s wings called?

Turkey feathers

What kind of music did the Pilgrims like?

Plymouth Rock

Which side of the turkey has the most feathers?

The outside

Why did the police arrest the turkey?

They suspected it of fowl play

That’s enough fowl jokes for now….

Test Your Digital IQ

Author: utech  //  Category: Consistently Chili

I saw this test in Newsweek over the weekend while waiting to get my haircut. Shouldn’t I get more points for taking it online instead of doing it from the magizine?

Test Your Digital IQ

I scored 201. Sad I know… Given that the highest category is 110+ and is described as “You are a digital ace, expert in both practice and theory, and you take full advantage of digital tools. Some might call you a nerd.”

EXCUSE ME! The term is GEEK!

In my case “Everyone Does” rather than “Some Might”.

Given the top score is 240 (and yes I went through the quiz a second time selecting all the ‘right’/'best’ answers and took notes on what I need to do) it looks like I have some work to do. [Kinda like using the Purity Test for ideas ;) ] So I need to backup my PC more often, get an online stockbroker, pick up that wireless mouse/keyboard, get a new PDA/Cell Phone (Now accepting donations!) and I have got to register at SlashDot.

Let me know what you score….

Amazing

Talk about the light just going on. This morning’s service was great! Although I didn’t know what to do during Community Time as I had to go solo this morning due to illnesses. Chelsea did a great job leading worship this morning. Dougie was out of town so we needed someone to stand in his spot, I would say fill his shoes but since he doesn’t wear shoes I can’t say that. :) And Tom was on fire! We got through the story of Joseph this morning. I will get the notes up later today… But I was trekking ahead and was thinking about the Israelites this morning and it finally clicked. For years I have always thought the Israelites were dumb, they continue through the OT waffling in their relationship with God. Serving Him, leaving Him for other gods when times get good, coming back to Him when times get bad. It dawned on me that if my life was written down someone would be reading the exact same thing. Maybe not to the extreme but the same basic story. So I am challenged today by the word. To live a life worthy of my calling, to live in the power of God’s Spirit to let the old-man that I was be dead and stop going back to his grave. Yeah, I still have some of the same things that I like to do. I like computers and I like playing drums and I think I am funny sometimes. God does give us gifts and talents that He wants us to use for him. He does have a plan for me and I have to live my life one day at a time with the full assurance that He is making a path for me, sometimes it takes the long way around, sometimes it goes right through the dark valley, the dry desert and sometimes over the mountain tops. The Lord is my God and I will live for him.

Saturday Afternoon

Taking a lunch break. Christmas has come to the Utech house today. Got all the boxes out of their stored locations this morning. The tree is up and the girls are almost done with it. Evan and I are waiting to put the Angel on top. If you haven’t heard the story about how the tradition of putting an Angel on the top of the tree started ask me sometime ;) .

So far we got two of the trees up. One more to get put up for the kids. I think we will put it in Evan’s room this year. And then it is time to get the lights up outside and hopefully mow the lawn one last time the year. Need to get the hair cut done today. Hopefully I can get to that, as I am starting to get a hard time about how my hair looks. (Ruh-row Shaggy) Well I need to finish my lunch, check email and get back to decorating the house while listening to the melodic sounds of N’Sync’s Christmas Album, NOT my choice but we already listened to Mannheim Steamroller.

Turkey and Gravy Flavour at Jones Soda

Author: utech  //  Category: Consistently Chili

Now, I am a fan of Jones Soda. With great flavors like Blue Bubblegum, Green Apple, and Berry Lemonade I typically have to have my “jones” about once a month. But only on my free-day.

Well those wacky guys at Jones now got a new flavor… Turkey and Gravy Flavour. I don’t really know about that, but the first time I see one I can assure you that I will try it.
