email group

Author: utech  //  Category: Consistently Chili

We have an email group for NewLife. You can join by using the button below. I welcome anyone’s suggestions on what they would like to see this group become. I hope that it will be a way for our community to stay connected and get to know each other better. I will have a scripture of the day on M-F. But anyone is invited to share. Words of encouragement, thoughts on the message/sermon, testimony, prayer requests, etc. We will just have to see what it becomes.

Have to make sure we get something in the announcements this weekend…

His Story, Our Story – Feud (War) Genesis 4

Author: utech  //  Category: Consistently Chili

Great service today! Worship was awesome, Doug lead us all into the presence of The Lord this morning. Tom is doing a great job in taking us through The Story. I encourage you to come to NLCC next week.

1) Cain and Abel present offerings to God.

The offerings were different. Cain brought “From the produce” but Abel brought “the firstborn” and “choice cuts”. The offerings were an act of worship.

2) God accepts Abel’s offering but not Cain’s.

Why? We can theorize about why, but it’s not the point. The point here is Cain’s reaction. God knew their hearts and it wasn’t for us to know.

3) Cain denies a second chance.

Cain got angry over something he could not explain. He allowed that anger to grow. God warns him and lets Cain know that He is there for him. Cain got even more bitter and his anger overtook him.

We face this every day. We have a choice to go God’s way or our way.

4) Cain killed Abel and his blood cries to God.

Sin creates a “Matrix” where we are god, we are in control, (at least we think we are). God is showing us the way to the “Real World” — The Kingdom of God.

5) Cain denies the killing and denies the responsibility.

Cain denies his responsibility. Sin affects everything. Our perception, our relationships – with God, other people, Our witness.

Like a pebble in a pond. Sin starts with one person, one action but the effects spread out to others, our community, our nation, our world.

6) Cain went out from the presence of God.

God is merciful and just.

He allows us to choose our own way. If we leave him, he doesn’t stop us. BUT if we turn back, He welcomes us with open arms.

Cain chose his own way.

Friday Quiz

1. When were you most embarrassed and why?

When I was in high school I played Joseph in the Christmas play at our family church. I had to sing a solo and it was during a major change in my voice. Praise God, I sang so quiet no one heard it! I am sure I have been more embarrassed since then but I have block out those bad memories, but I am sure Janet remembers some. :)

2. If you had $1,000,000 and had to give it all to charity, how would you disperse it ?

I would start a charity… Seriously, I would give some to our church, to Millville, to the Lamberts, Roma Lee, Living Water… basically all the charities/ministries that I have either been a part of, have helped me, or I believe in the work they do.

3. If you could perform one miracle (other than make the whole world Christian), what would you do? Why?

Fix the church in America, we need it desperately!

4. What has been one of the greatest adventures you have been on?

A personal relationship with Jesus Christ, being married, and having children.

5. The most useless thing in my/our house is the laptop but it’s still there because I am getting it setup to sell. (Anyone intrested?)

His Story, Our Story – Fall (Sin) Genesis 3

Author: utech  //  Category: Consistently Chili

Sorry for the delay, here are the notes from last week…

1) Eve is deceived by the serpent and sins.

The evil one still today questions everything God has established. Satan is the Father of Lies. God is Truth.

If he can get us to compromise on just one thing he has us. Once we compromise it isn’t as hard the next time.

2) Adam sins at Eve’s invitation.

Let’s face it men, we will follow our wife. Even if that means going against our own convictions.

3) Adam and Eve discover their nakedness and make fig leaf coverings.

They were exposed by their guilt.

When we step out of what God requires of us our reaction is to hide, to cover ourselves with something, anything.

4) God curses mankind and casts them out of the garden.

The curses that were given were at the heart of the man and the woman. The man’s work and the woman’s child bearing.

Why is there a tree?

Because we have to choose or else we are robots.

Yahoo! News – British Singer Robert Palmer Dies in Paris

Apparently he died from an overdose, he was addicted to love.

Kidding aside, what a shocker! Life is short people and 54 is not seeming as old as what it used to. Maybe I need to get a phsyical…

Newsday.com: Texas University Shuts Down Bake Sale: “Matt Houston, a 19-year-old sophomore, called the group’s price list offensive.

‘My reaction was disgust because of the ignorance of some SMU students,’ said Houston, who is black. ‘They were arguing that affirmative action was solely based on race. It’s not based on race. It’s based on bringing a diverse community to a certain organization.’ ”

Matt – If affirmative action is not based on race then what it is based on.

Granted when I read stuff like this is just makes me boil. If you want some sharp whit and intellectual thought go here.

Where are the reruns of WKRP? I liked the show when I was a kid and now that I live in the area I would really like to watch it again. Sad to see that Gordon Jump passed away though.

Weekend in Review

Author: utech  //  Category: Consistently Chili

My head is still spinning from this weekend. Friday night we had Janet‘s niece over and I feel asleep before she left. oops! Saturday we went to the Dave Ramsey conference, that took out most of the day. Sunday we went to church, at lunch with some friends, ran home and got a medical consult from Dr. Grandma, Zoe fell and hurt her arm at the restaurant. I ran out to try and get a hair cut, no luck there. Than had to run to Living Water to preach at the 4pm service. Then run my father-in-law back to his house, swing by my house to get the family off to house church. We stopped for drive by dinner on the way home, got the kids in bed, ran to Wal-Mart and Kroger. And then back home to go to bed.

Where did the weekend go!?

I never got to grill the chicken I put out on Friday. :( I have to get that on the grill tonight, even if it means holding the umbrella in one hand and grilling with the other.

Am making an honest attempt to do another 12 week BFL challenge starting today. Need to really hunker down and get a plan put together for the workouts, cardio is no problem but the weight training is another story. I need to lose about 50 pounds! and these tats would really like to have arms worthy of their beauty.

Need to get some structure back in the daily devotion time, and I need to spend more focused time in prayer.

I think I am going to forgo the saving for drums right now, it would be really nice but I don’t really have the time. Am gonna save up for the stick bag and other sticks I need. But we really need to focus on getting this debt gone. After 8 years of marriage we have almost 4 years of my current salary worth of debt and that is just wrong. Back when I started the credentialing process I said I wanted to be out of debt before I would go into full time ministry because I didn’t want to put that kind of burden on a congregation. Some 5 years later I am still in this process and the debt has only gone up. Maybe that is why I am still in the process. I think The Lord is trying to tell me, “It is time to grow-up”… correction, I think I am finally hearing The Lord say, “Grow Up”

Just found out my brother in law ran into an old friend that is now CTO of the company I worked at for a few months last year. It’s a small world after all…. So continue to pray about the job front for me, I greatly appreciate it.

Spoke to Don today about his group. They are getting ready to do into the studio and make a new record. They are going to be doing some original songs and their promoter is planning to get some songs sent to Capitol Records. Found out that some of the songs they are planning on recording are some songs I like by another SoGo group in the area that I just love. Everyone, sing with me, It’s a small world… Some people would think all of this is weird or some coincidence, but I can see the “Fingerprints of God”.

How to Eat an Elephant…. one bite at a time.

Author: utech  //  Category: Consistently Chili

The one thing from today that is really scary/sad and yet gave me a glimpse of hope is the amount of debt we have. It is a lot! But the elephant is smaller than what I thought it was. A few months ago we made the decission to stop using the credit cards every month to live. That was very hard for about a month and a half. But it is do-able now. I am really glad we made that decission back then as it will make the next steps a little easier. Just have to keep making Baby Steps. Right Bob?
